Encourage a sense of community and build self-esteem with a display that welcomes all students.
Featured Display
Prepare by asking students to bring photos of themselves (up to 3″ x 3″) to class. Tape the photos to mini accent frames and set aside. Write the lines of a welcome poem on sentence strips and display as shown. As you say a student’s name, ask him or her to share a personal fact, such as “I play soccer,” “I am taking piano lessons” or “I am good at math.” Then have the student help you add their photo and star to the display. Then write their name on the display. It’s a fun and personal way to start the year!
