Louis Jolliet – French Explorer
Louis Jolliet was the son of a wheelwright. He was born in or near Québec and was baptized on September 21, 1645. He attended the Jesuit College in Québec.
Jolliet was a music master at the Jesuit College he attended and an organist at the cathedral there. In 1667, Jolliet left school to enter the fur trade in the Lake Superior region.
As a fur trader, Jolliet heard of a great river that flowed south.
