Archeologist Activity Worksheet
Read the story. Think about the meanings of the words in bold type. After months of careful excavation, the famous archeologist Dr. Idaho Smith had dug through the final layer of rock. He stood among large piles of debris that were left from his efforts to uncover the buried tomb. His experienced eye had detected a small crevice in the otherwise solid stone wall. It was the outline of a massive door that was nearly twenty feet tall. The figures carved on the stone wall seemed to stare ominously, and their angry expressions made him shiver. Still, he knew his real enemy was a stranger who had visited the site claiming to be a reporter. Dr. Smith thought the claim was dubious and suspected that the stranger might consider plundering the tomb and selling its treasures for his own profit. After all, relics like jewelry and statues were quite valuable.
