Features 21 stories, each followed by four or five pages of activities for practicing reading skills. Each of the stories is followed by activities for practicing reading skills such as: comprehension, vocabulary development, phonetic elements and word attack skills. More Read and Understand, Grade 2 has 21 one-and two-page stories that vary in reading difficulty from mid-first through beginning third grade to meet the need of the an average second grade classroom. The types of stories include: fairy tales, fables, realistic fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Some story titles are “Are You a Spider?” “Masumi’s Party,” “The Country Mouse and the City Mouse,” “Bones,” “Giant Pandas,” and “Stone Soup.” Practice activities for every story include: a comprehension page, a word meaning page, a phonetic element. Other skills practiced include: sequencing event, compound words, possessives, syllables, homophones, following directions. The stories and practice materials can be used for directed lessons with small groups or individual students or as independent practice activities in class or at home. The reading levels in each book span several grades to ensure that appropriate material for most all students is provided.
