Historical Routes by Harcourt Achieve Inc.

The Oregon Trail or the California Trail! Use the historical map to answer the questions. Darken the circle by your answer
choice.

Routes have changed over time. In the 1800s, people used trails to head west. They found many adventures along the Oregon Trail or the California Trail. By the 1900s, highways had replaced the trails. One of the most famous of these highways was Highway 66. Find this highway on the map, and follow its route with your finger.

In the 1930s, the middle section of the United States had a drought. The land dried out and turned to dust, causing the area to become known as the Dust Bowl. Many people left the Dust Bowl and headed west, looking for a better life.
