Hessian
Hessians were mercenaries hired by the British to fight against the American Patriots in the Revolutionary War. About 30,000 of these mercenaries were hired and they were called "Hessians" because most of the hired officiers came from the German province of Hesse. In the Battle of Trenton, about 1,4000 of these Hessians were captured after Washington's army crossed the Delerware river to carry out a surprise attack on Christmas Night of 1776.This article is a stub.
